Update for Beit Sefer

On August 28th Rabbis Jules, Rachel and Andrew and I held an information session on Zoom. The gathering was attended by several Coachella Valley families who wanted to learn more about our Shabbat school which has its opening day on Saturday, October 8th at the Unitarian church in Rancho Mirage. The gathering was well attended and all of the families that were present were excited about the new opportunity the DOS community is offering for Jewish education.

Presently, I am forming class lists and I’m happy to report that we have secured a full slate of amazing teachers. I will be sharing their stories in this space in the coming weeks.

When our Shabbat school is at the church (please see DOS calendar) our three rabbis will be offering adult education. I think showing our children that Jewish learning is a life-long pursuit, will help them grow and take pride in their growing Jewish identity.

Many thanks to the DOS community for your support in providing seed money to help make our school strong and vibrant!

Talkin' Torah

Coming together to discuss and learn about the weekly Torah portion has been a mainstay of the Jewish people for generations. As individuals, we bring our personal perspectives and experiences into the rich text of the Torah. We can see ourselves in the stories of our ancestors, be inspired by their triumphs, and learn from their failures.

The sages refer to the Torah as Torat Chaim; the living Torah, alive and evolving through our history, personal experiences, evolving scientific knowledge, and the human condition.

Desert Outreach Synagogue is proud to announce Talkin' Torah, where we will come together each Shabbat and delve into the text of the weekly Torah portion. Engaging in lively debate and discussion is encouraged, as we continue to find relevance in our daily lives and share our personal world views with each other.

Come be part of the Oral Torah and shape discussions around the future of Judaism!

Talkin' Torah will be a hybrid class meeting both in person and during Shabbat school, with locations to be announced shortly, as well as online. The first class will be in person before the first day of Shabbat School on October 8th, 8:45 am at the Unitarian Universalist Church in Rancho Mirage. Please email Rabbi Andrew for more information.
